We are proud to announce that recently our school has been authorized to teach the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, which makes us the third IB school in Bulgaria /the first outside Sofia/ and a member of the fast-growing IB family around the world.
The International Baccalaureate Organization is a nonprofit educational foundation founded in 1968 and based in Switzerland. Currently it offers three educational programmes – all being as challenging and demanding as the IBO mission itself (see www.ibo.org ) - to over 504,000 students from 124 countries.
The Diploma Programme is a two-year pre-university course of study aimed at highly motivated students aged 16 to 19. At the end of the second year successful IB students are awarded the IB diploma, which is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities.
How are students assessed throughout the two-year course of study? Students’ performance is assessed internally by their teachers through a variety of forms. Teacher’s marks are externally moderated by IB. External assessment is held by international examiners who apply rigorous assessment criteria and for reasons of greater objectivity and reliability it has the greatest share in the overall assessment in each subject. The final and most decisive step towards awarding the IB Diploma is passing the subject exams at the end of the second year of study.
